Check streaming services with SSTV SmartDNS and understand browser, app and region limitations.
What SmartDNS does
SmartDNS uses DNS to route selected services' connections. Other domains receive ordinary DNS resolution. It is not a VPN and does not automatically give the entire connection a Swedish IP.
Configured does not mean verified
A service's domains can be included in SSTV routing without every app, programme or subscription working. For example, TV4 Play, Viaplay and Netflix may have different requirements in browsers and apps. These examples are not a promise of current support or playback.
Providers can reject connection methods even when SSTV is configured correctly. See TV4 Play's terms, Viaplay's VPN restrictions and Netflix's VPN limitations. Switching to VPN or Proxy does not override their region, subscription or access rules.
Compatibility changes over time. Check the service on your own device before relying on it, especially when travelling or after an app update.
Check the service you want to use
- Register your current public IPv4 address for SmartDNS in your dashboard, then follow your device guide to configure SSTV's DNS server. The dashboard registration does not change the device's DNS settings.
- Restart the app or browser and test both the service's homepage and actual playback.
- If the TV or mobile app fails, try its browser version on the same network. A successful browser test does not prove app compatibility.
- For support, include the device, app/browser version, service, time and exact error. Do not send passwords.
Common limitations
- The service may require its own subscription and an account in the appropriate region.
- App-store region, location permissions, GPS and device country settings can affect availability.
- An app can use its own or encrypted DNS, bypassing network DNS.
- Provider domains and rights checks can change, so a successful past test is not a permanent guarantee.
Follow check your connection for troubleshooting. If the device bypasses SmartDNS, Proxy or VPN may be an alternative depending on the device and service.
