Check your connection

Verify SSTV VPN, Proxy and SmartDNS setup on the device you use

Test one connection method at a time. Keep your configurations open and record the device, method, server and exact error if you need support.

VPN

  1. Disconnect other VPNs. Check that ordinary internet access works and complete any Wi-Fi sign-in.
  2. Connect SSTV and wait for the client to report Connected.
  3. Check the outgoing public IP on the device that will use the service, using an IP-check tool you trust. Compare it before and after connection.
  4. Open the intended application. For router VPN or shared Windows VPN, run this check on the TV or other downstream device too.
  5. If traffic still goes directly, review split-routing, IPv6 and the router's device assignment. A connected VPN indicator alone does not establish that every application's traffic uses it.

For authentication errors, check your VPN service credentials and active access in the dashboard. For timeouts, try another network or a protocol from the VPN guides. Keep certificate verification enabled.

IP registration for Proxy and SmartDNS requires active SSTV access and a public IPv4 address. Check these first if an update button is unavailable or registration is rejected.

Proxy

  1. Turn off VPN and other proxies. Connect the setup device to the same router as the device you want to use.
  2. Click the Proxy IP update button in the dashboard and wait for confirmation. Signing in alone does not register the address.
  3. Check that your browser or device has SSTV's current PAC URL enabled, as described in its Proxy guide.
  4. Restart the browser or application and test the intended destination.

The PAC file sends only selected domains through the proxy. An unrelated IP-check page can still show your ordinary IP. Saved settings and registered IP do not prove that an application uses the PAC file; some applications ignore proxy settings.

If the registered address has changed, update it again from the correct network. A browser on mobile data or another router cannot register the target router's address.

SmartDNS

  1. Use a browser on the same public IPv4 connection as the target device. Pause VPNs, proxies and iCloud Private Relay. Click the SmartDNS IP update button in the dashboard and wait for confirmation.
  2. Check the actual DNS settings on the target device or router against configurations. Use the DNS pair provided by SSTV.
  3. Reconnect the device's network or restart the device after saving. If you changed router DNS, check that the device receives those settings; a manually configured resolver can override them.
  4. Close and reopen the intended application. Cached DNS answers can make a change appear ineffective until they expire or the relevant cache is cleared.
  5. Review browser Secure DNS / DNS over HTTPS, Android Private DNS, VPN apps and installed DNS profiles if the device continues to use another resolver.

A public-IP check normally does not prove which DNS resolver a device uses. A registered IP proves account registration only; a browser page cannot by itself certify the TV's DNS path. If you know how to use a DNS lookup tool, check the resolver it reports on the target device and compare it with the configured settings.

A custom encrypted-DNS provider can bypass system DNS. See Chrome's Secure DNS settings, Firefox's DNS over HTTPS settings and Android's Private DNS settings. Change only the setting relevant to this configuration; do not disable HTTPS or certificate checks.

Still having trouble?

Return to the device's guide and verify one method at a time. Give support the device and OS version, method, server/profile name, time of the problem and error text. Do not send your password, IPsec key or downloaded private Apple profile.
