Configure SSTV SmartDNS on a Mac without changing its IP-address assignment

Before you begin

Register from the same public IPv4 connection as the target device. Pause VPNs, proxies and IP-hiding services such as iCloud Private Relay before registering, and keep them paused while automatic IP updates run. A browser on mobile data or another connection registers a different address.

IP registration requires active SSTV access and a public IPv4 address. If the update is unavailable or rejected, check these prerequisites before changing device settings.

Connect to the network where the device will be used. Open your dashboard on a computer or phone on the same network and update the IP address under SmartDNS. Wait for confirmation; signing in alone is not enough. Pause any VPN while registering so you register the right network.

Record your previous DNS settings. Close the streaming app before making changes. Enter the SSTV DNS address below in the DNS field, not as the device’s own IP address or gateway.

DNSIPv4 address
DNS94.254.0.81

Configure

  1. Open Apple menu → System Settings → Network and select the active Wi-Fi or Ethernet service.
  2. Open Details → DNS. On older macOS, use System Preferences → Network → Advanced → DNS.
  3. Record existing entries, then use + to add the SSTV DNS address shown above. Remove manually entered DNS servers from other providers for this setup.
  4. Save with OK, and Apply if shown. Do not change TCP/IP or search domains.
  5. Reconnect the network and reopen the browser or app.

Repeat for Ethernet if you configured Wi-Fi and later switch connection types. A VPN, Private Relay or browser secure-DNS provider can bypass the chosen resolver; temporarily pause conflicting settings while troubleshooting.

Check

Reopen the app and try a service you use. Follow check your connection if needed and read services and limitations. SmartDNS does not give all traffic a Swedish IP and does not encrypt your connection.

After an IP change, update the address again. Use the IP update button in the dashboard.

If no websites open, restore your previous DNS settings to recover connectivity, then check the registration in your dashboard.

Undo

Remove the SSTV DNS entry and restore any earlier manual entries. Without a manual override, macOS uses the network’s DNS.
